This instance serves as a public archive for CDP team meetings.

While we will try to upload all of our meetings, we may forget sometimes!

Contributing

If you wish to contribute to CDP please note that the best method to do so is to contribute to the upstream libraries that compose the CDP Instances themselves. These are detailed below.

cdp-backend: Contains all the database models, data processing pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code for CDP deployments. Contributions here will be available to all CDP Instances. Entirely written in Python.
cdp-frontend: Contains all of the components used by the web apps to be hosted on GitHub Pages. Contributions here will be available to all CDP Instances. Entirely written in TypeScript and React.
cookiecutter-cdp-deployment: The repo used to generate new CDP Instance deployments. Like this repo!
councildataproject.org: Our landing page! Contributions here should largely be text changes and admin updates.

New Infrastructure Management

Council Data Project v3.2.0

Council Data Project is a backend, frontend, and cookiecutter deployment for creating a whole database, storage system, and website, for archiving, exploring, and tracking municipal council action.

This library, cdp-backend maintains the pipelines, database models, infrastructure configuration, etc.

This version of cdp-backend is meant to fix the currently broken infrastructure deployment system. We are ripping out all of Pulumi and using gcloud, gsutil, and firebase CLI tooling to achieve the same result (which are all first-party tools so should be better supported).

:warning: :warning: This release is a "breaking" change for instances. Instance maintainers will want to update the instance with make update-from-cookiecutter. :warning: :warning:

No More Parallel Index Creation

We couldn't deploy any new instances due to a bug with Firestore index creation. This changes makes it so that indexes are only created one after another.

As a result, stack deployment takes much longer unfortunately.

Better Closed Caption Parsing and Indexing Changes

We have made it a new minor version!

This release include two changes:

Better / safer WebVTT parsing (specifically to address Boston closed caption files) -- thanks to @isaacna

The index pipeline has been split into two. This is a breaking change and deployment maintainers should update their deployment repositories with the make update-from-cookiecutter to pull in these changes.

!! MINOR BREAKING !! Legislation Tracking Page, Catch-all Routes, Page Speed Optimizations, and More!

This is a minor release because it includes an entirely new feature. The Legislation / Matter page! This page has full details on a single piece of legislation and can be used to navigate to the various meetings that it was discussed in.

:warning: :warning: Unfortunately this also includes a minor breaking change but it should be easy to resolve! We now require the maintainer of the instance to add the IANA timezone string as a part of their cookiecutter setup.

You will need to go in to the cookiecutter.yaml file in the repo and add the iana_timezone key with the appropriate value.

For example here is Seattle's current cookiecutter.yaml
