Overview

SaVaGe Turtle

Use the Python turtle to write SVG files

If you're using the Python turtle module to teach students, or you just like using the turtle module yourself, this module can save the images from a turtle script as SVG files. Experiment with your turtle code using the regular turtle or the Live Coding in Python plugin for PyCharm, then pass an SvgTurtle to the same code, and save it as an SVG file.

Installing

Install it with pip install svg_turtle. If you haven't installed Python packages before, read Brett Cannon's quick-and-dirty guide.

Drawing

Once it's installed, create an SvgTurtle, telling it how big to make the SVG file. Then give it some turtle commands, and save the file.

It seems like using svglib to render to svg to png can yield incomplete results:

[CRuby] Revert a HTML4 parser bug in libxml 2.9.13 (introduced in Nokogiri v1.13.2). The bug causes libxml2's HTML4 parser to fail to recover when encountering a bare < character in some contexts. This version of Nokogiri restores the earlier behavior, which is to recover from the parse error and treat the < as normal character data (which will be serialized as < in a text node). The bug (and the fix) is only relevant when the RECOVER parse option is set, as it is by default. [#2461]

Unexpected fill between dots

Hi, thanks for clearing up issue #1 . I noticed that there's a difference between turtle and svgturtle. Running:

t = SvgTurtle(1000,1000)
t.penup()
t.hideturtle()
t.forward(200)
t.dot(30,(17/255, 103/255, 45/255))
t.forward(50)
t.dot(30,(17/255,232/255,122/255))
t.save_as('example.svg')

Gives the right color, but between dots there's also color: Whereas running:

k = Turtle()
k.penup()
k.hideturtle()
k.forward(200)
k.speed('fastest')
k.dot(20,(27/255,223/255,45/255))
k.forward(50)
k.dot(20,(27/255,223/255,45/255))
screen = Screen()

My sister is a GR of her class. She had to mark attendance of students from screenshots of teams meeting on an excel sheet. I resolved her problem by reading names from screenshots using PyTesseract and marking them present on the excel using Pandas in Python. It took me 1hr to write the code and it is saving half an hour everyday.
