Preferences windows doesn't stick to main window

Usually, these smaller pop-out windows (I don't know how to call them) like the preferences window should stick to the main parent window. Wike does this for the About window and the Keyboard Shortcuts window, but not for the preferences window.

Wike lacks article or citation preview on hover.

Wikipedia has this awesome feature that shows a preview of an article when you hover over a hyperlink or a citation. I think this would be beneficial for the ease of use of Wike.

    Default Language to System Default

    Hi all,

I have just installed the latest version of Wike Version 1.7.2 (2d324b86) from flathub and to try it out searched for caesar. Wike correctly showed me the article on Gaius Julius Caesar. However,

    • the article was in English, while
    • my system default is set to German.
    • Checking in Wike -> Settings -> Languages German was the only selected language and
    • only after selecting German from the wheel in the search bar, results were persistently shown in German.

I honestly think, that the search results should have been in German from the very start. So here my feature request

Default to the system language at first use

Once again thanks for bringing wikipedia on GNOME - I use it daily!

  • Add

Add "Open Link in Web Browser" to context menu

Sometimes when reading an article, I would like to edit it.

It would be good with a "Open Link in Web Browser" entry in the context menu when right-clicking on a link.

Feature request: enable dark mode when using a dark GTK theme

Thank you for wike! Is a really nice little app that I am enjoying a lot.

I would like to ask for a feature: I would be really nice if wike enabled dark mode when a dark GTK theme is been used.

I have my ubuntu install configured to change to yaru-dark at sunset and many apps and webpages (all of them if using Dark Reader on Firefox) also change to dark mode when the gtk theme is changed. Wike does not and it would be really nice if it did. It is not a big deal to enable it manually, but it would be a nice quality of life improvement if is easily doable.

  • Handle Wikipedia URL entry

    Handle Wikipedia URL entry

If you press F2 or Ctrl+K it could handle URLs to Wikipedia articles.

    Example if you paste in:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux

    or

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux

Then it knows you want the Linux article.

  • Use better icon for the

Use better icon for the "Change language" button

At first I didn't quite understand what this button did. It's also used in the preferences window's view switcher. But now I've understood it's to change the language of the page. The little flag icon doesn't ring a bell here on what it's about, so maybe replacing it with globe-symbolic would make it clearer, as that's generally the kind of icon websites use for that purpose (and anyway seeing a globe like that seems nearer to a "Language" button than a flag…).

  • Cantarell

    Cantarell

Nice idea and good feature set! Wike 1.1.0 from Flathub I would like a even more native look. That would mean to have Cantarell as font. I see three options here:

    1. Hardcode: Make Cantarell the default font
    2. Use the default document font: gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface document-font-name
    3. Allow custom css.

    removed debian/ files

For packaging, the debian folder should go to a separate branch. I am working on getting wike into the debian repos. Maybe just move the debian/ folder to a separate ubuntu branch.

    Cheers

Better icon for language change (in headerbar)

The flag icon is sometimes used on the web to signify "report a post/flag a comment". Myself it took me a while to find where to change the language.

A few examples of language icons with better metaphors:

duckduckgo image search for "language icon"

Wike forcefully defaults to English even if it is not among the enabled languages in the preferences, and there is no way to set the default language

I have configured Wike for people in developing countries, particularly children, who do not speak English. In the Wike languages settings, I have enabled only Spanish, or French and Spanish, but not English; yet, Wike defaults to displaying the English Wikipedia front page on startup, and searches in the English version of Wikipedia instead of the preferred language(s), which is unhelpful for those users.

Furthermore, I can also think of my 80-years-old aunts that would highly benefit from Wike but they do not speak a word of English, yet the application forces this language upon them, and they will never be able to "search for a valid English page first, then switch to an alternative language from there", it cannot work that way for them. It doesn't matter if non-English wikipedias are less complete, they do not speak English.

If we can't simply use the system's language, these users would need an option/preference for the "Default language for the homepage and search".

Support import & export of the bookmarks

I checked the past issues & didn't find any similar ones, so creating this.

Like title said, it would be nice to have an option to import & export bookmarks to quickly add many bookmarks in a new install of Wike or when using the app in a new machine.

Thanks for all of your work!
