Procgen Results

UCB-DrAC achieves state-of-the-art performance on the Procgen benchmark (easy mode), significantly improving the agent's generalization ability over standard RL methods such as PPO.

  • How is the actor KL divergence computed?

How is the actor KL divergence computed?

    Hi,

Thanks for open-sourcing this great work! I might have missed something simple, but could you please kindly explain why KL divergence is computed using only - action_log_probs_aug.mean() as in this line:

    https://github.com/rraileanu/auto-drac/blob/master/ucb_rl2_meta/algo/drac.py#L95

If I understand correctly, the KL divergence should be between the action distribution computed from the original image and the action distribution computed from the augmented version. However only the augmented log_prob is considered here. Shouldn't the KL divergence include both (q is the augmented and p is the original):

  • Why do the training curves end before 25M steps?

Why do the training curves end before 25M steps?

This might be a plotting bug or how the results are logged but it seems the training curves (picked one from the DrAC paper) are not until 25M steps but end before that: Is this the expected behavior?

  • Is the code preemption safe?

    Is the code preemption safe?

    Hi,

I have been running this code on a cloud machine and it seems my logging restarts from step 0 in between the training. So, is the code safe to run on a machine which can be preempted? In other words, if the training is stopped at some intermediate step, and the code is then restarted with the same initial params, would it load the last checkpoint and start training from there? If not, can you please tell me what are the fixes required?

  • Sampling entire trajectorie for a single env from RolloutStorage

Sampling entire trajectorie for a single env from RolloutStorage

Hi, If I needed to sample entire trajectories for a single env from the RolloutStorage, what would be an easy way to do so? For example, would it be easier to adapt the recurrent_generator -- any hints would be really appreciated (haven't dealt much with PPO, so this may be a really stupid question)!

Context: I want to randomly sample 2 trajectories (possibly from different envs) and add an auxiliary loss which depends on these two trajectories.

    Reproducing results on CoinRun

I just wanted to confirm if I need to change anything before running DRAC (Random Conv) to reproduce the results reported in Table 4 and 5 in the paper -- also, why is Rand + FM (9.16) bolded instead of IBAC-SNI (9.46) for results on CoinRun in Table 5?

    TensorFlow 2.3.0

    Release 2.3.0

    Major Features and Improvements

    • tf.data adds two new mechanisms to solve input pipeline bottlenecks and save resources:

In addition checkout the detailed guide for analyzing input pipeline performance with TF Profiler.

    • tf.distribute.TPUStrategy is now a stable API and no longer considered experimental for TensorFlow. (earlier tf.distribute.experimental.TPUStrategy).

    • TF Profiler introduces two new tools: a memory profiler to visualize your model’s memory usage over time and a python tracer which allows you to trace python function calls in your model. Usability improvements include better diagnostic messages and profile options to customize the host and device trace verbosity level.

    • Introduces experimental support for Keras Preprocessing Layers API (tf.keras.layers.experimental.preprocessing.*) to handle data preprocessing operations, with support for composite tensor inputs. Please see below for additional details on these layers.

    • TFLite now properly supports dynamic shapes during conversion and inference. We’ve also added opt-in support on Android and iOS for XNNPACK, a highly optimized set of CPU kernels, as well as opt-in support for executing quantized models on the GPU.

    • Libtensorflow packages are available in GCS starting this release. We have also started to release a nightly version of these packages.

    • The experimental Python API tf.debugging.experimental.enable_dump_debug_info() now allows you to instrument a TensorFlow program and dump debugging information to a directory on the file system. The directory can be read and visualized by a new interactive dashboard in TensorBoard 2.3 called Debugger V2, which reveals the details of the TensorFlow program including graph structures, history of op executions at the Python (eager) and intra-graph levels, the runtime dtype, shape, and numerical composistion of tensors, as well as their code locations.

    Breaking Changes

    • Increases the minimum bazel version required to build TF to 3.1.0.
    • tf.data
      • Makes the following (breaking) changes to the tf.data.
      • C++ API: - IteratorBase::RestoreInternal, IteratorBase::SaveInternal, and DatasetBase::CheckExternalState become pure-virtual and subclasses are now expected to provide an implementation.
      • The deprecated DatasetBase::IsStateful method is removed in favor of DatasetBase::CheckExternalState.
      • Deprecated overrides of DatasetBase::MakeIterator and MakeIteratorFromInputElement are removed.
