Viewport scrub timeline

Move in the timeline directly in viewport and snap to nearest keyframe

Note : This standalone feature will be added in the native add-on Grease Pencil Tools (Starting 2.93)

Description

Pop-up a timeline in viewport so you can reduce mouse travel distance (or work full screen) Available in following editors: 3D viewport, Movie Clip and VSE

Viewport scrubbing in time

Viewport timeline : Alt + MMB (middle mouse button) (default)

Use addon preference to customize shortcut, display colors and behavior.

Use designated shortcut in viewport to call the temporary timeline and scrub

Snap to nearest keyframe : While scrubbing, use a modifier key not used as trigger or Right click (Left if you use Right as trigger)

    Hi, first of all thanks for implementing this, just fantastic! 🙏 Would it be possible to have an option to clamp the scrubbing to the timeline range? For example, if I have a range from frame 25-50, the scrubbing would stop either on the first frame (25) or last frame (50) of the range. It's great, that the range is already displayed in the UI of course! 👍 As said, if possible just as an option, so users can decide to use clamping or not.

    Moving frames within timeline

    Hi,

    I like this addon because it saves me from the "default" timeline. I am not comfortable with the default because I think is actually for 3d/flash animations with "diamond" keys. Certainly that is useful if someone uses many bones or layers for sure. But while animating or creating animatics thats a real pain to select/move these diamonds. (Beside I don't need scroll bars in the timeline either, they cover so much space if you had to use many timelines in the same time.I can use shortcuts instead). So my issue with timeline is that to ask if that is possible to add these options to your scrubber as I tried to picture that in the visual below. I put squares instead of that diamonds and labeled them as A,B and C. This is the generic similar time line system used on hand drawn programs such as TvPaint and Toon boom.

    Clicking A area for editing lenght of the scene backwards without effecting the previous frames, B area for extending lenght of the scene backwards with effecting the rest of the frames (slides whole), C area for moving clip without effecting neighbour frames. (I know , currently there are options for shifting keys like pressing E after selecting whole keys but I think it gets quite frustrating if you have many layes and keys.)

    A small improvement would be if the addon could work directly, if you press Ctrl + Alt and then MMB-drag, to directly start jumping between keyframes. Currently, you'll have to start Alt-MMB-dragging and then hit CTRL for keyframe jumps.
